This no knead homemade bread is so easy to make! It can be served as an appetizer, table bread or just for snacking on. Substitute any herbs you have in the house for this flavourful bread that is just too simple to make. I'm afraid we're going to be eating a lot of these!
Ingredients:
1 tsp + 2 tbsps olive oil
3/4 cup warm water (105° - 115°F)
1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsps quick rise yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1 3/4 cup flour
Garlic parmesan butter:
3 tbsps butter, melted
1 tbsp parmesan
1 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp dry oregano
1/4 tsp rosemary
salt to taste
10" cast iron skillet
First pre-heat the oven to 250°F then turn it off creating a warm rising place.
In a large bowl stir the water and sugar together. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit for 10 minutes. Next mix the salt into 1 cup of flour and stir into the water and yeast. Add 2 tbsps olive oil, then add the remaining 3/4 cup flour. Mix until well combined.
On a floured work surface shape the dough into a ball or disc.
Brush 1 tsp olive oil in the skillet and gently press the dough out and to the sides. Cover with a dish towel and place in the warmed oven for 30 minutes.
Remove and heat the oven to 400°F
Make finger indentations in the dough. Now it's starting to look like a foccacia! Mix butter, parmesan, garlic, oregano and rosemary together and brush half the mixture over the top. Sprinkle a little salt if you like. I used pink Himalayan.
Bake for 20 minutes in the 400° oven then when it comes out of the oven brush with remaining garlic parmesan butter.
Slice and enjoy. It also freezes and defrosts nicely.
