Ingredients:
5 apples (Granny Smith, Spartan)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Topping:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup melted butter, cooled
1 egg
pinch of salt
In a 10" pie plate layer apple slices. They should be cut 1/4-1/2" thick. Mix the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the apples.
Next mix all the topping ingredients together and spoon or pour on top of the apples. Spread evenly.
Bake at 325°F for 1 hour and maybe an extra 5 minutes, depending on how golden you want the top crust.
Cool to room temperature,
then cut to serve.

ReplyDeleteHope you like it!
DeleteIs this crust flaky like pie crust or soft like cake?
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of a cross between both ... crusty, flaky exterior and when you cut through with a fork it's quite tender.
DeleteJust made this for a special get-together. It looks and smells DELIGHTFUL! Can't wait to dig in. Plan to serve with ice cream and a light drizzle of caramel (optional). 😉 I think I'm going to try this recipe with peaches. Adding a hint of nutmeg and it should be super yummy. Thanks for the easy and terrific recipe!
ReplyDeletePeaches and nutmeg sounds lovely!
DeleteSince I was running low on sugar I substituted with half white sugar and half brown sugar. What a happy accident🤗 Thanks for this wonderful way to use up my apples!
ReplyDeleteOh yum!
